Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Lymphatic drainage massage?

Lymphatic drainage massage involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to help lymph move to an area with working lymph vessels.

Is massage painful?

It's not unusual to feel some soreness after a massage. This is due to a release of lactic acid in the muscles, but it doesn't last long. You may also have some discomfort during your massage. This depends on the area we're working on, any pre-existing pains, and whether the therapist is using too much pressure.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

No! All our therapists will ask you to remove clothing only as far as you feel comfortable. If you only want to undress to your underwear, that's fine.

Should I see a Massage Therapist if I’m not in pain?

Massage therapy is a great natural solution when you want relief from pain, but it can also be used as a preventive treatment too. Seeing your massage therapist regularly can help: • Lower cortisol and raise serotonin levels to calm and relax your body • Loosen tight muscles, which may increase blood flow, leading to lowering your blood pressure

What'll happen at my first massage?

We'll ask you to fill out a health history form to let us know about any current concerns or goals you want us to deal with. We'll then give you privacy to make yourself comfortable – whether you decide to remove your clothing or not. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask them.

What should I wear?

Loose, not fitted clothing that can easily be manipulated by the therapist.

What if I am embarrassed about my body?

The massage therapist is a professional who has worked with all body shapes and sizes. She is non-judgmental about your body weight, amount of hair, skin conditions, scars, disabilities, medical conditions, or personal history. Your dignity and modesty will be protected at all times using towels and blankets to comfortably drape your body and preserve your humility. The therapist will leave the room before and after the massage, to allow you to undress and dress with privacy.

Can massage help with a medical condition?

Massage has been shown to have a range of health benefits, from lowering blood pressure to easing migraines. Research has demonstrated that massage may help relieve pain for patients with cancer, HIV, and Parkinson’s Disease. Massage can also help lower stress, which is a good thing for your overall health. If you have a serious medical condition, you should clear a massage with your doctor first.

Should I eat before I come for a massage?

It is best to not eat for at least 90 minutes before your massage treatment and only a light meal at that time. The body needs time to digest your food. This is the same caution you would take when you go swimming or exercising. The digestion process directs the blood flow away from your peripheral tissues and concentrates it on digestive tract. Massage draws the blood flow to the area tissues being worked on therefore draws the blood away from the digestive tract causing poor digestion and possible discomfort.
